Starting Bengali cuisine veg recipes with a very tasty yet healthy drink Gondhoraj ghol .....Gondhraj Ghol marked a special place in my list because of its simplicity and flavour.  This is a light yogurt based drink flavoured with Gondhoraaj lebu/lemon and topped with zest of lebu .Gondhoraj lebu/lemon has a very subtle aroma. It is very widely used by bengolis , a little dash of its juice adds lot of flavor to any dish, or even to normal daal rice. Now -a days a variety of dishes are made using this lime. Gondhoraj Veg curry,  gondhoraaj lebu patta diye daal ( dal with gondhoraj lime leaf), etc, and yes! its leaf also has equally great flavor  Its flavor is very similar to Kafir lime, which is widely used in Thai cuisine.Ghol is basically a bengali version of lassi, only it is thinner in consistency and lighter on the stomach too.

Kolkata..A Foodies Paradise...

Health is wealth .....it is really important to be fit and healthy. I realised that, some change in lifestyle can help in maintaining a balanced diet. To apply it in daily routine...I have started a Diet food series.
There's nothing more inviting than hot South Indian breakfast: strong filter coffee, piping hot drumstick sambher with little bits of coconut, tasty coconut chutney gunpowder and golden-crisp Dosa! I love dosas and in fact I'm planning to make one today in breakfast. And it's not just because they taste divine but also because they're really fun to make: Right from grinding down the urad dal and rice, letting the white stuff ferment to running your ladle through the batter checking for lumps, it's almost therapeutic. Bell peppers contain folate and are a good source of vitamin A (from beta-carotene), vitamin B6 and vitaminC In adulthood, it is believed that bell peppers protect the body against rheumatoid arthiritis and may also prevent the development of cataracts. Red peppers have the edge on green ones in terms of nutritional value, as they contain more folate, an impressive nine times more beta-carotene and lots of lycopene. Lycopene is an important carotenoid and plays a valuable role in later life, by protecting against cancer and heart disease. Baby corn though not high in protein, is considered a healthy vegetable due to low carbs, high in fiber, good amount of vitamins a, c, iron and zero fat.  Combination of both gives a healthy bite.

Tomato and cucumber salad

Next in salad series is very simple yet healthy salad i.e. Tomato and Cucumber salad . Sounds familiar ?? If you grew up in north India you've probably eaten Tomato and Cucumber salad with every meal ....to give an Indian twist to this salad sprinkle little chaat masala on it and for more healthy option omit or limit olive oil.




Ingredients for Cucumber and Tomato Salad:
4-6 medium tomatoes
4-5 small cucumbers, or 1 english cucumber
1 small onion, thinly sliced 
2 Tbsp Extra virgin olive oil
1 Tbsp distilled white vinegar
1 tsp fine sea salt, or 3/4 tsp table salt
1/4 tsp Pepper to taste freshly crushed 
2 Tbsp Green onion for garnish (optional)
How to make Cucumber and Tomato Salad 
Slice tomatoes and cucumbers and place them in a large bowl. Thinly slice onion and add them to the salad bowl. In a small bowl, stir together 2 Tbsp Extra virgin olive oil, 1 Tbsp vinegar, 1 tsp fine sea salt and 1/4 tsp pepper. Just before serving ,drizzle your salad with dressing and add more salt …
