Lemon rice

Today it was a nostalgic moment for me ......my sis-in-law has shared some old family pictures with us ....this took me back to the memories of those good days when my mom in law was with us ........being youngest and only daughter in law she pampered me a lot....she use to cook for me most of the time, she thought me so many dishes from different cuisines. Her speciality was punjabi and south Indian cuisine ....  I never got a chance to visit South India, but South Indian food is one of my favorite too....specially variety of rice  and crapes lemon rice and tamarind rice is also one of them and I must say my mom in law was expert in this, sharing today my mom in laws special lemon rice ..  Ingredients 1 1/2 cup Rice cooked 3 Tbsp Lemon juice  2 Tbsp Oil  Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp Asafetida a pinch 1/2 tsp Fenugreek seeds (methi dana)  1 tbsp Split black gram skinless (dhuli urad dal)  Curry leaves 10-12  2 Broken Whole dry red chillies  1/2 Tbsp  Turmeric powder  1/2 cup  Peanuts  Salt …

Methi muthia

Rainy season is my favorite. Mesmerizing sound of rain drops, cloud clad mountains    Romantic weather.....love this weather sitting in my balcony with my family and friends ....with ginger tea and pakoras. But as you all know health of my family is my priority so whenever I get a chance ...I try to replace fried snacks with steamed ones   Though at  times when taste wins over  I do make some ones favorite fried snacks too...
Muthias is a very favorite healthy snack (of course if it is steamed) at our home, as I do make many varieties like lauki muthiya, palak-methi muthiya and carrot muthiya  Muthiya's are basically steamed dumplings of mix flour with the goodness of vegetables. Steamed Muthiya's taste best with green mint chutney but you can fry them also to make them more crunchy and delicious ...I love both the versions so sharing  both the recipes.

Stuffed tinda in gravy | stuffed round guard

New addition to summer bites ..stuffed tinda in tomato onion gravy. Though summer vegetables are really liked by me and husband I can see dim smiles on my daughters face. I am sure .....maybe ....most of you are facing same problem as me during summers. This inspired me to start SUMMER BITES series. This is all about an experience of a mom from her kitchen.  Today when I went for Sunday shopping it was really a mind boggling experience as I was searching for GOOD VEGETABLES ...it was my daughters strict instructions " mom plz we need some good vege's " and I know what they meant by this statement ...but being a mother how can I neglect fresh seasonal vegetables so my motherhood wins over......so no pampering and .....This prompted me to try something different and hopefully tasty with these not so good vegetables.  I remember my mom used to make stuffed tinda's | round guards very often for special dinners so I thought I should give this recipe a try ...
